Governor Steve Bullock of Montana signed HB 603 back in May, an anti location spying bill that prohibits state and police agencies from accessing or retrieving the location data of residents by electronic device without a warrant, including cell phones and laptops.
Montana HB 603, to “Generally revise privacy laws and location information of electronic devices”, summarizes:
“AN ACT PROVIDING THAT A GOVERNMENT ENTITY MUST OBTAIN A SEARCH WARRANT PRIOR TO
OBTAINING LOCATION INFORMATION OF AN ELECTRONIC DEVICE; AND PROVIDING EXCEPTIONS,
DEFINITIONS, AND A CIVIL PENALTY.”
